Gaslight-Baker Theatre One-Act Play Contest

July 15

Guidelines and Rules
Plays should be one-act plays that are 10-30 minutes long and be complete works in themselves; no excerpts from larger works.
Submitted scripts must not have been previously published, fully staged, or won other competitions; works that have received a previous staged reading are acceptable.
Scripts should be for 1-6 characters and be able to be convincingly staged with minimal set requirements (table, chairs, etc.) and standard lighting.
The competition is not limited by genre (comedy, drama, thriller, etc.) but we cannot consider musicals or puppet shows.
Writers should submit manuscripts with a title page that has their name and email address, the title of the play, and the estimated run time. Subsequent pages should not have the author’s name or email address. If you mail in your entry and wish to have your manuscript returned, you must include a SASE with sufficient postage.
Each play submitted must be accompanied by a $20 entry fee. Entries will not be considered submitted until the entry fee has been paid. Writers may submit no more than 2 plays per competition.
The prize money for the top three scripts will be $300, $200, and $100.
Entrants will receive a completed feedback form for their scripts.
The three winning entries will receive a staged reading under the direction of and with acting provided by Gaslight Baker Theatre talent.
The applicant must be the owner and controller of the copyright. The legal clearance of materials not in the public domain is the full responsibility of the playwright. Authors retain rights to their scripts. By submitting a paper copy of the script the playwright agrees to allow their work or a portion of their work to be scanned or reproduced into a PDF or similar file format for internal use only, not to be distributed.
Deadline for submission is July 15. Winners will be notified by September 1. The staged reading will be held later in the year. Winners must arrange for their own transportation to the event.
