The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre is now seeking applications for its
2024-2025 INTERN PROGRAM

We are seeking interns to join us for our 96th Season. The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre has a one-of-a-kind Intern Program, which dates back to 1945. Interns gain valuable design, fabrication and production experience over the course of our twelve (12) show season. All positions are $354 per week, plus housing. Health benefits are also available. These are twelve months contracts, beginning in June, 2024, with a possible one-year extension. We have the following Internships available for the 96th season:

LIGHTING DESIGN INTERN will complete up to six (6) lighting designs per season, with optional training in sound design. Will also assist with lighting, sound, video, SFX, and maintenance for three venues including a traditional proscenium and two flexible spaces. Equipment/Software includes: ETC Consoles, QLab, Digital Cyc, Vectorworks, Lightwright and Photoshop.

SCENIC DESIGN INTERN under the supervision of the Resident Scenic Designer, will build their portfolio, developing, rendering, drafting, painting, design and props skills while working in three venues: beautiful 1930s proscenium house, state-of-the-art arena theatre, and intimate studio space.

COSTUME DESIGN INTERN will develop skills in design, patternmaking, cutting, and costume crafts working with the Resident Costume Designer. Opportunities to design up to five (5) shows and stitching on all productions. Excellent sewing skills required. Draping skills a plus.


TECHNICAL DIRECTION INTERN will train under the supervision of the Technical Director and work with professional carpenters in our fully equipped scene shop. Intern will have opportunities to further develop carpentry, and TD skills in our 500-seat proscenium, 190-seat black box and 100-seat studio.
