Job Description

Manager of Development and Education (Part Time) Fort Salem Theater | Salem, NY

Fort Salem Theater, a nonprofit theater company in Washington County, NY, seeks a collaborative and entrepreneurial Manager of Development and Education to support the organization’s continued artistic and organizational growth. This is a part-time position with the opportunity for additional hours and responsibilities. 

Working alongside the Executive & Artistic Director, this role will contribute to both the administrative and artistic leadership of the organization, with a focus on grant research, grant writing, season planning support, and production coordination. This position is ideal for an early-career arts administrator or emerging artistic leader seeking hands-on experience in the leadership of a producing theater. Compensation 

$400/bi-weekly stipend 

Complimentary tickets to all Fort Salem Theater performances and events Opportunities for additional paid work through teaching, programming, or project-based initiatives 

This position is structured as a part-time hybrid role (approx. 10 hours/week) and may be evaluated in the future for expanded part-time or full-time employment based on organizational needs and candidate interest. 

Key Responsibilities 

Grant Development Research and identify grant opportunities for Fort Salem Theater Prepare and submit grant applications 

Assist with grant reporting and funding documentation 

Work with leadership to develop funding narratives and project proposals 

Artistic & Production Support 

Assist the Executive & Artistic Director with mainstage season planning 

Support staffing, creative team coordination, and general production logistics 

Assist with special events, readings, and artistic initiatives Organizational & Administrative Support 

Contribute to planning and operational initiatives across the organization 

Assist with project coordination for productions and programs Basic marketing or social media support as needed 

Optional Opportunities for Additional Compensation 

Candidates interested in artistic programming or education may pursue additional paid opportunities, including: 

Teaching classes or workshops at Fort Salem Studio 

Coordinating youth or community programs 

Programming performances in the Fort Salem Theater Cabaret Room, including concerts, readings, and special events 

Work Schedule 

Approximately 10 hours per week (with opportunities for growth)

Hybrid schedule with flexible remote work 

Minimum of one in-person day per week at Fort Salem Theater in Salem, NY 

Some night and weekend hours are required during tech rehearsals and performances 

Ideal Qualifications

Interest in nonprofit arts administration or artistic leadership 

Strong writing skills (preferably grant writing experience) 

Strong organizational and communication skills Interest in theater production and arts programming Basic marketing or social media knowledge is a plus but not required 

Ability to work collaboratively in a small, mission-driven organization 

Must have local housing and reliable transportation
