AACTFEST: WORKSHOPS

the KNOWLEDGE of community theatre across America

CAll For Workshops

AACTFest 2027 will be in Rochester, Minnesota, June 15-19 2027, and the AACT Education & Workshops Committees want your help making it the best festival ever. We are currently accepting proposals and requests for in-person workshops that will inspire and engage all who attend.

The deadline to submit is October 21, 2026. In November, applicants may be notified by a member of the Workshop Committee to discuss your proposal and any ideas for clarification, modification, or combination with another session proposal. All applicants will be notified via email by January 4, 2027 as to whether your proposal has been accepted or declined. All session presenters must register by March 1, 2027 for the festival

Helpful Tips

While there is no secret recipe for the perfect workshop proposal, fully-realized and well thought-out proposals are preferred. Select a topic you are passionate about, experienced in, and aligns with AACT’s mission to help theatres thrive.

We encourage you to begin by considering the following:

  • What do you want participants to walk away with?
  • What is your strong guiding question?
  • How does your session benefit AACT and its members?

As you plan your proposal remember to:

  • Think Outside the Box! Unique and specific topics are encouraged. What information do you have that isn’t easily accessible for all theatres?
  • Active & Hands On! The most well-received workshops allow attendees to learn by doing. Sessions that relayed information without active engagement are not as positively rated.
  • Titillating & Truthful Titles! A clever and creative name plays a significant role in capturing attendees’ attention–but only when it accurately reflects what attendees will experience.

Frequently ASKED Questions

How long is an AACTFest workshop?

Workshops are typically 75 minutes in length, though we are sometimes able to accommodate longer sessions. If your session requires more time, please note it in your proposal.

Will Presenters receive an honorarium?

As a membership association, AACT does not provide honoraria for general session workshop presenters. While non-members may submit a proposal, all presenters must register for the festival by March 1, 2027. Presenters will receive early-bird discount.

What equipment will be provided?

A select number of workshop rooms will include a monitor or projector with screen, along with HDMI and USB-C connecting cables. Presenters must provide their own laptop or other source. Any other equipment, materials, or handouts must be provided by Presenter.
