JOB DESCRIPTION:
Are you an emerging theater educator or arts administrator who wants to join a team at a professional theater? Bring your energy and creativity to the School Programs Fellowship at Arena Stage! As the School Programs Fellow, you will learn to co-teach in-school workshops, write student study guides and help coordinate Arena Stage's D.C. Ticket Partnership, our student matinee program that serves over 1,000 students at 25 D.C. public and public charter schools. The fellow also works on Arena Stage's acclaimed Voices of Now program, helping to direct and devise autobiographical theater for change with groups of middle and high school students.

Arena Stage will provide the fellow with opportunities to develop skills in:

Writing student study guides for Arena Stage productions
Lesson planning and co-teaching workshops in schools
Organizing student matinees
General administrative support, especially scheduling
Devising (creating) original theater with groups
Using theater as a tool for dialogue and community discussions
Creating scripts and directing/choreographing in the Voices of Now program style
We are seeking an individual with experience and enthusiasm for working with young people in schools. Excellent writing and research skill using reputable sources is crucial to success in this fellowship. We value flexibility, generosity, patience and joyfully tackling challenges as a team. The position requires working in a variety of spaces (office, classroom, rehearsal hall) and creating theater with people of all ages and backgrounds. The candidate should have experience making or performing in theater, but a degree in theater or education is not required. The candidate should be comfortable writing individually or collaboratively. Ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office suite is helpful.

Additional Expectations: Occasionally, some school visits or special events take place outside of regular office hours. One evening rehearsal may be required per week.
